I am working on some lighting layouts. I know there is lighting software that can help with what I am doing and was wondering if you guys knew of a really good lighting program. Thanks!

I use LitePro (Lithonia Lighting) Simple & accurate..

uupss! I take that back, I use LitePro ( from Columbia Lighting Group)

Thanks for the info l3city. I've checked into it and it looks to be a really good program. Pricey though. It would be nice if I were able to download the prog b/c I need it asap. Anyway, thanks again for the info.

centaur21:
call the company, ask for free software (this is for any lighting company products you are trying to work with) I remember we got ours for free!

Nice..... I will call tomorrow and see if I can get my hands on a copy. Thank you very much.

Talk to your architech, he would have the rules of thumb. Ask for a reflected ceiling plan. Other wise blindly blundering into a software package to solve your problems could become an ebarrassing failure. Otherwise do as I do, break out the manuals, 1stOM estimate the FC's, grab your pants and run with it.

I am lighting I am dealing with is offshore platform lighting both indoor and outdoor. Lighting such as fluorescent fixtures and mercury vapor floodlights and fixtures.

Thanks dpc! I was able to download Visual which gave me the option to evaluate the full pro version for 30 days. I will use this on the project I am working on now and possibly purchase it if all goes well.

Does anyone know of any forums specific to lighting design? I would like to have somewhere to go to ask questions that specifically deals with lighting. Thanks.

Looks like I might be waiting a while for a reply in that forum IR. The last post there was a few weeks or so ago. Doesn't look like many people use that forum. I hope I can get a response quickly.

Thanks angryman, but I wouldn't want to call this guy about someone else's product.

I really like Visual 2.0 also mfpetryk. One of our drafters sent me a 3D model of a portion of a platform in which I am doing a lighting layout for and I imported it without too many problems, but the drafter had to explode the entire platform. It would be nice to be able to make all parts of the platform solid objects instead of it looking like a wire frame model. I decided that creating the 3D models myself w/in the software would be much better than using the importied 3D model. If your familiar with CAD PDMS, it would be really nice to be able to import this model and be able to manipulate it in order to place lighting, etc....., but from I see, Visual is limited to what it can do. It is a very nice program though.
