How to use lightning arrester while receiving a signal?

OK, here is the clarification.
A digital receiver is used to receive a signal through passive discone antenna in areas subjected to frequent thunder and lightning. And lightning arrester is required to protect the equipment from damage.The question is, how to use the lightning arrester? or where/how to install the lightning arrester?

Strongly concur with IRstuff's recommendation..

There are issues in lightning protection not well understood by many.. in particular, ground shifts and the appropriate ground/bonding required to protect devices that have multiple connections, such as to an antenna system and of course, the power source.
