From ASCE 7-05 it appears that stack rooms have to be designed for a min LL of 150 psf. Is that all I need to use or should I be superimposing some other loads (partitions etc). 150 psf seems sort of light, so I wanted to make sure I get it right.
There are a bunch of requirements for 150 psf - do you know the stack layout yet? Don't forget there's also the 1000 lbs concentrated load. If in doubt, try going for Heavy Storage at 250 psf.
ASCE give miminum loads. If you feel that it is light, by all means increase it.
I think that their number takes into account the spaces between the shelves, but why lose any sleep over it? Make it 200 or 250 psf.
@slta: Yes, I have the layout and its a typical stack 90" high by 1' deep (wide). Rows are going to be separated by 42" minimum.

You might also want to give a little thought to stabilizing the stacks against overturning, particularly if they are in a seismically active zone. One stack tipping over can start a domino effect.
BA, we are in low seismic area, seismic design cat B per IBC 09. But its an interesting thought, how to stabilize against racking. I guess you would have to tie the stacks to the floor and each other!!
