LEG SUPPORTED ATMOSPHERIC TANKS

Hello!

We are currently doing a project which includes atmospheric storage tanks that is supported by 2m high legs. We're not sure of the reference we need to follow for the leg calculation and bottom shell thickness. API650 is not applicable, isn't it? How about AWWA D100? Any other references?

Take a look at API620.

In the US, such tanks are usually designed to one of the regular tank standards to the extent that it's applicable.
API-620 and AWWA D100 can both be applied to leg-supported tank, but neither gives much guidance on the leg or leg attachment design, either.
Most of the references are for pressure vessels.

Supporting small tanks on legs is not significantly different to the concept of supports for vertical pressure vessels. API-620 wants supports to "conform to good structural practice" so some guidance from the pressure vessel arena could be sourced from the design handbooks produced by Henry Bednar and Dennis Moss, for example, using design loadings derived from API-620.
