I think Grip was etc..., but seriously if you can see how an expression would be related to an object and thence to a layer then you have my attention. Otherwise I struggle to grasp what you plan to do?
Since I can read/write Expressions, and set layers/categories using GRIP there is nothing stopping someone from using GRIP to perform this task as long as you understand that it would not be dynamic, that is you would have to run the program whenever you needed to bring everything up-to-date. Now if that's acceptable, and you can provide me with a detailed description of that what it is that you're trying to accomplish and what your goals are, I would be glad to give it shot.

We are using PTS to create an interface for our desingers to follow, I was hoping I could control what layers were turned on visible as they select items in PTS. Grip is not a likely canidate, for now this process will just have to be manual. Was hoping I was overlooking something simple.
You can probably use KF in conjunct with PTS and therefore you might have better luck getting the behavior that you desire going that route. My comment about GRIP was simply because it's a simple, albeit, limited solution.
