Layer Groups in Acad 2004 Mechanical

Anyone know how to add a layer to a layer group in Mechanical version of AutoCAD. At one time I had this figured out a few years ago, but now trying to add a new layer that will be used in several layer groups, and I am at a loss.

I believe that you type "amlayer" at the command line (one way to start the command) and then select "Layer Group Control" and hit the "CREATE" button.
