Dear all,

In one of our project in Saudi Arabia, The testing agency is going to perform lateral load test on pile as per ASTM D3966. The lateral load of 160Mton (2 time design load of 80Mton) is needs to be applied on the test pile. Required weight (for coefficient of friction of 0.35) of "160Mton / 0.35 = 457 Mton" shall yield huge quantity of blocks ( for example for concrete block of 1 cum size or 2.4 Mton weight) = 457 / 2.4 = 190 nos. Is there any other option to reduce nos. of blocks required. We have 75 blocks available with us.

You could test two piles simultaneously. Check section 6.4 of ASTM D3966.
