I've been trying to find in a text or design aid a procedure for calculating the lateral load capacity of a belled shaft pier. No luck so far. Does anybody have any information regarding this issue? Thank you.

The bell is at the bottom of the shaft, which provides very little of the lateral resistance for the shaft. Most of the lateral resistance comes from the upper portion of the shaft.

I agree with Panars, belled peir and straight staft have the same lateral capacity.

Thanks for the help. That simplifies things greatly for me.
