I need to laser weld a 304L disk (dia.480x .001"thk) to an opening in a 17-4PH body to create a sealed port. I am not familiar with laser welding at all (new industry for me). Do I have to worry about warping or other positional issues such as work holding?.

You should consult with the welder how to machine and prepare the opening such that it will fix the disc in place. I am not sure that the 0.001" is not too thin for laser weld but I think that the Micro TIG can do it.

Sorry, that was a typo, it should be .011"thk. The disk fits into a counterbored area like a spotface. I had originally thought TIG as well, but was told to laser weld it.

I meant Micro TIG not TIG. A company I worked for ordered custom design miniature sealed bellow (~1/2" dia) made by Micro TIG of many beveled disks ~0.1-0.2 mm thick.

We used laser welding to weld the bellow to a solid tube.
