I have been trying to track down a 16" seamless carbon steel pipe cross for some time now. The thickest one I could find domestically was sch30. I'm trying to find sch80 but distributors seem to be befuddled when I ask. I can get it from China but don't know how to ensure that it is up to code. Does anyone have experience buying quality fittings from China and know if there is some way to know its made properly. Otherwise does anyone know why no one makes larger pipe crosses domestically? Is there no demand?

thanks

"Quality fittings" and "made in China" tend to be mutually exclusive.

What is wrong with a welded cross, with all seams 100% NDT'd? Properly made welds are stronger than the basemetal. PQR coupon tests prove that to be a fact, over and over.

You should read thread#723-304464 about Chinese junk.

Given the choice between seamless from China and welded from somewhere reputable with the proper NDT, I know which I'd choose.

Cutting existing tees and clam shell welding together is no simple task, and unless you know the service condition and have all necessary welding procedures and NDT performed, forget it.
