Can anyone advice the name of companies or individuals who would be willing to develop, prototype and produce two custom outrunner electric motors of 15 hp each?

Thanks.

Dave

Itsmoked,

The outrunner motor is a brushless DC motor where the rotor containing the magnets spins around the coil windings on the stator. This is an overview of the outrunner; and this is the largest one that I have been able to find;
They have a high power to weight ratio, however it appears that currently they are only built for R/C vehicles.

My application is for a 15hp motor. I wish to use the motor's angular momentum, in addition to the use of its power. Therefore, this motor must have a very large diameter 'open bore'.

I understand now.
So the outer motor housing spins rather than the shaft.
Most peculiar.

I can see some applications that would benefit from that..

Thanks for enlightening me.
Not what I was guessing so I can't help. Most sorry. I would expect some motor people here to chime in with more though.

Have you asked Plettenberg?

sreid,

Thanks for the information.

itsmoked,

I am also looking for a 15hp+ outrunner for my project. I have been working with the r/c outrunners in airplanes and helicopters and the power and eff. is outstanding. I have considered designing and building my own motor but buying it would be much easier. I have the shop and the skill but as usual I am short on time to make the motor myself. Have you had any luck locating a willing fab shop or someone who has the knowledge and time to build the motor? In the earlier postings I don't think they fully understood what the outrunner actually is. It is a very basic motor to fab.

Thanks,
David

INA may have what your looking for all developed. Thier main web page is impossible, but the link above should get you there (will these huge companies ever get a clue as to what the engineers need).
Read the descriptions carefully. They do have inside out brushless motors, of a fairly high power level.

bill111,

Thank you very much for the link to INA.
