I word for a water dept. in Mass. We want to put a well back into service. The well hasnt been in service for about 5 years. The well has a tank of KOH. My question is , is th e KOH potassium hydroxide usable. Is there an expiration on it. I appreciate any help Thank you

KOH is an inorganic chemical and therefore the chemical itself does not have an expiration date.

However, if materials are exposed to humidity or water, the material may solidify or cake up, making certain materials difficult to use. Humidity and water may provide an environment where biological contamination to occur, but KOH is extremely basic and contamination should not occur.

If materials have been open to the atmosphere allowing the potential for contaminants to enter, the materials should probably not be used. If the materials have been in a sealed container, the materials are good.
