Key codes

my laptop mouse is wandering all over the screen and I need to open my ACAD drawings from a window XP 2000 operating system. I need key codes instead of using the malfunctioning mouse. Where can I get these two key codes until I can get a new computer?

What type of mouse? Have you tried re-installing the drivers? Are you sure it is the laptop?

I have both mouses, laser and ball types. There is no difference, cursor goes out of the screen. No,I have not reinstalled any driver and I will once I get back home, meanwhile, somebody else is working on my drawings and I don't like it, that's why I am hoping for key codes for ACAD and the operating system until I get back home.

I cannot find the key codes for a mouse... are you thinking of "short cut" keys? or possibly unicode keys for characters? or some means of accelerating the cursor keys?

chicopee - it may not be your 'mouse' that's the problem but the touch pad on the laptop assuming you have one.

I had similar issues, and couldn't find where to disable the touch pad even after pointers from IT. Given they eventually gave me a new laptop instead of fixing it I'm guessing they had trouble too.

I have a wireless mouse for my laptop. I had a little wireless mouse receiver plugged into my USB port. One day, I had my mouse in my briefcase next to my laptop, and all sorts of weird things happened to the mouse pointer until I unplugged the receiver.

At home, I plug my laptop into a USB hub. The hub is where my mouse receiver lives. My problem solved, perhaps yours?

I disabled the touch pad and the cursor is behaving properly. Thanks for the suggestion. No need for key codes.

Chicopee - I do most of my AutoCAD work on a Dell laptop. I have found that the touchpad and a mouse can coexist most of the time. BUT I have found that the sleeve of my shirt (when typing on the keyboard) brushes the touchpad and sends the cursor off to who knows where. I have also found that the mere brush of a sleeve on a mouse wheel can resize my AutoCAD screen to a view far removed from the project.

Sometimes our computer issues are caused by the least expected.
