I'm working on a project where Jumbo HSS might be used. However I've been struggling to find any availability. Have any of you had any experience with these sizes? HSS12x12x3/4 specifically.

Contact Atlas tube. They'd be able to let you know. For what it's worth, 12x12 HSS are barely considered jumbo anymore.

I'd second Atlas Tubes. They're a good resource to have. I talked to them a couple months ago regarding availability and they forwarded me a pdf of their latest pocket reference manual for ASTM A1085 tubes which shows the typical sizes and their availability (link below for your reference). Not sure if you're going with ASTM A1085 or A500 but for a HSS 12x12x3/4 they list it as a jumbo size and that it would be a special order if it's not available from stock. They might have a minimum order for special orders so it would be good to contact them.

You're right, the 3/4" wall thickness is not considered readily available, I would look at sharpening my pencil and getting the 5/8" wall to calc out, that is a readily available section.

It's the b/t<13.8 ratio for highly ductile elements unfortunately. We'd just use 14x14x1/2 if it weren't for that.

Thanks everyone! Contacting Atlas it is.

Valmont steel also was marketing a jumbo HSS replacement not too long ago... Their process was different than typical HSS, I think they were essentially CJPing two press-brake bent channel shapes together full length.

The name is a long story -- just call me Lo.

If all else fails, can a built-up square section from welded plates be used.

Can we know what these beastly tubes will become? SCBF braces in something big?

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

Single story 35' tall special truss moment frame columns in orthogonal directions (column occurs at the intersection of two stmf frames). AISC 341-10 didn't require the columns to be highly ductile, but AISC 341-16 does unfortunately.
