Hi,

If I have horizontal reinforcing in CMU walls to meet the jointless requirement (#6@48" say), do I still need typ joint reinforcing(wire ladder type)? I am not able to find a reference for this.

Thanks

I'm looking at a very old ACI 530-02, and paragraph 1.13.2.2.2.1 explicitly says that you can either use joint reinforcing or bond beam reinforcing.
I'm sure that hasn't changed in the TMS codes.

The code does not state that you can eliminate joints using horizontal bond beams, it is the NCMA TEK 10-03 that provides that recommendation ( TMS 402 requires in Section 1.2 that the designer show "Provision for dimensional changes resulting from elastic deformation, creep, shrinkage, temperature, and moisture", but it doesn't state exactly how to do that (engineer's discretion).
