Am having trouble joining parts in assembly.
I have 2 parts in assembly mode in the orientation
I need. I want to join these 2 parts to make one.
When I select insert, components, and go to "join"
it is grayed out. What gives?
Thanks much

To my knowledge you can't join parts in the context of an assembly. You can save the assembly as a part and then join the bodies in the part file by using Insert, Feature, Combine.

Go to Help > SolidWorks Help Topics > Index and type in joined parts

You need to create a new part in the assy before trying to join the other parts.

With in the assembly creat a new part. Then while editing the new part inside the assembly, click on Join, then select the parts you want to join together. This will creat a new part file of the joined parts with out disturbing the original parts.

Sorry for the mis-information, TheMan!!!!!

If you 'only' have those 2 parts in an assy and 'only' want one part ... you can do "save as" part.
