Job Router Help

I'm looking for any information that might help a Machinist with 25 years experience in taking on a "Job Router" position in a large machine engineering and building company. After working "Self guided" in much smaller shops I'm wondering just what I'm going to need to know or any kind of helpful reference. Thanks for any help!

Please define the job a bit more.
The term "router" means to me a paper record of the steps to be completed to build a part or assembly in the sequence to be followed. Some shop have expediters whose job it is to keep projects moving though the shop and to keep needed materials available when and where needed. These are really low level project managers.
Can you give us a little more to work with?

I think you pretty much nailed it down to the best of my knowledge. I actually havent heard the details of the job yet and was assuming the same as you. Most of the places I've worked at in the past the shop supervisors/foremen moved the jobs along from machine to machine. Thanks for helping though and I'll have more details later.

I'm a manager over a few Industrial Engineers and work for a large Oil Field manufacturing facility. We have 43 CNC machines. Basically our job is to put the map that the part is going to take through the shop. Example
SAW, First operation CNC lathe, Second operation CNC Lathe, third operation CNC Mill and process for finishing ie...coating and marking of the parts and then stock in our warehouse. You need to learn the machine parameters in your new shop to know their capabilities. We are also required to do cost savings projects, make things faster, better, cheaper.
