I think Volstro makes one to attach to a Bridgeport milling machine but when I search on Google, I get someone other than Volstro like used equipment, ebay, etc.

We have infrequent need for sizing holes in Aluminum alloy parts to tolerances as close as +/- 0.00025". we can do it by reaming but the results are borderline as you might expect. These are obviously grinding tolerences and our hole location tolerances are not tight enough to justify a jig grinding machine.

I need to get some prices for new jig grinding attachment to present to my boss. Can somebody provide a link(s) to a supplier(s)?

Here is the ones that we have and I've heard no complaints.
Our work is mostly with D2 and other tools steels. I don't remember any work with Al.

Have you looked at broach and hone?

Thanks for the link Unc. I have put in an RFQ to them.

Broach and hone: No I have not considered this which is an interesting thought but I will. We do some very limited honing with Mickey Mouse hones -- the kind one buys at the local hardware or auto parts store and fits into a hand operated drill motor. I had not considered a good honing machine setup.

I am currently reworking some parts that were "honed" and fortunately are undersize, out-of-round, and tapered being only about 3/16" thick. I am using an adjustable hand reamer but on a Bridgeport at minimum speed with rigid setup which is about 85% effective because of the out-of round and taper.

Here are two sites that you should checkout for bore finishing and diamond lapping. We use several types of finishing equipment from Engis, top quality and it does what its supposed to do.

For your taper and out of roundness checkout the Helical Hone. The Engis tools will not go oversize.

This company is part of Engis.
