Itron G5 handheld computer

I am in the process of getting an Itron G5 handheld computer for a test run of automated meter reading. Has anyone had any experience with them? Are they used more for other purposes in different industries under a different name? I'm also wondering if Itron actually makes them or who is used for the outsourcing if Itron doesn't make them.
Just looking for some extra information. Thanks.
