Isometric drawing views

Is there a way to have a little more control over the..."point of view" when creating an isometric drawing view? In Mechanical Desktop, you can create an iso view from any other existing view.

In SW, I've only found iso as a model view. I have then projected new views FROM the iso model view and that SORT OF gave me what I want...but not really. Do I have any other options besides what I've been doing?

If the API hasn't changed. You run it through a macro. See Macro in the help.

You could also used named views, and the arrow keys for rotating. Start off with a front view, and rotate one axis at a time until you're happy. That way you can keep vertical lines vertical and such (unless you use perspective views). Then hit the ole space bar and save it.

I believe that I have yet to use the isometric view feature in SolidWorks or Mechanical Desktop.

In SolidWorks, in the assembly model, I rotate things around until I get the exact view I want. I use the "Named View" button to capture the view I want.

Does your view have to isometric, or just 3D?

The arrow thing did it for me.

As for the isometric thing....it's just a habit I picked up at Boeing. It's somewhat customary to put a small iso view in the corner of the dwg purely for ornamental reasons.
