NOTE: Cross posting this, as I had no replies for 3 weeks in "ISO Standards & Certifications Forum"
Looking for a bit of clarification in regard to thread stress area. I am finding two formulas for calculating area of stress in a threaded bolt, One is directly from ISO 898-1 (2009) as which includes
A_s,nom which relates the difference in the thread pitch diameters of the internal and external threads. Another which I am seeing in multiple sources and referencing ISO is A_shear = 0.5*pi*Le*(D-0.65*P) which includes engagement length.
The sources with this second formula are:
Whiles these are referencing ISO, I cannot find the second formula within ISO 898-1. Is it found within other sections i.e. 898-X?

is SAE 770420 usefull for this? too bad I cant browse the standard before purchasing..
