Island grid with variable frerquency / any experience?

Hello all,
I have the following concern:
In an environment with power generation systems (app. 5-6MW generators) we want to operate at variable frequency and voltage (the island grid is build with an HVDC converter that allows this operation), where U/f ratio is a constant: E.g. 7kV<U<10kV and 35Hz<f<55Hz
Does any body have experience in that area or could give me helpful advise?

Is this a wind farm ? Other than the wind turbines, I don't see steam/gas/hydro turbines and diesels tolerating the such a wide speed excursion.

Yeah, gas turbines will definitely have a problem because of the compressor. A steam turbine could probably cope if designed for variable speed, over a certain range anyway. Same for diesels. Why such a wide frequency range - will the loads tolerate such variation?

I raised this question in two forums as my suspicion was our idea could be used in both areas, electric power and motor applications.

Easy mistake to make, but pretty much anyone who visits motors will end up in here and vice-versa. Split discussions are frowned upon by The Management.

Got any more information on this application - sounds either interesting or strange depending on how much coffee I've had.
