Is there a standard in ASME Y14.100 that ORIGINAL drawn by ALWAYS stays on drawing?

Hello, just wondering, I know after being in the engineering field for so long. That the original drawn by person's name and all related (Check, Approved, etc.) should stay with the original document and never changed. I just started with a company that believes the names should be changed with each revision to the drawing.

Not sure where this practice or rule exist, anyone know? Or is this just based on company to company practice?

Look at ASME Y14.35M Revision of Engineering Drawings and Associated Documents.

Section 4.3.1 is relevant though it is talking about redrawn drawing with a change "The names of the individuals whose signatures appeared in the t?title block of the old original ... are entered on the new original"

Guess I've been doing that wrong...... We don't change the names with a simple drawing revision change but if it is completely redrawn, we put new names on it. We have bought companies product lines without keeping any of the employees. Frequently their drawings are AWFUL and sometimes completely WRONG. I have frequently had to reverse engineer their products and contact the suppliers to find out what the parts really look like, materials, etc. If I actually need to redesign the products from the ground up I give the parts new numbers but if the parts are OK and just the drawings are garbage then I have to completely redraw them to conform to reality. In those cases I have put new names in the title block to go along with all the new dimensions, material specs, drawing views, notes, etc. You would not believe some of the garbage our executives have brought to us after exercising "due diligence". If I kept the old names, they would be of people who never worked for our company.

Thank you for the replies KENAT and dgallup, I knew I was right, just couldn't remember where to find the answer. Yes, ONLY completely redrawn drawings get new names, but old revision drawings always should maintain the existing names.

We keep the original names.
We also have some old aerospace/military parts that have to keep the original names per contract, even if they are a complete redraw.

Thank you ctopher, I think its just more the smaller companies, and older (I hate to say) seem to know you keep the name always with drawings during revisions. Unless completely redrawn...

If it's completely redrawn, with changes, then it should be a new P/N.

I used to letter my name and the date, on the back of the paper, before applying the StanPat title block decal to the back.
