Do we need to check contact area between footing bottom and soil for ultimate load cases?

When I'm sizing footings I only check ULS cases, have yet to experience SLS being the governing case when doing the final design in software.

For EC at least, wind is heavily reduced in SLS, and any eccentricity with it for your typical foundations. But I've noticed required contact area and desig method varies for different countries and standards, so check your local regulations.
