Is AWS D17.1 -2001 replacing AMS-STD-1595

Is AWS D17.1 -2001 replacing AMS - STD - 1595 (MIL - STD 1595) or is just an addition/duplication of requirements for the aerospace part manufacturers? I haven't seen anywhere any notes ( in the body of the spec) where this spec supersedes any other specs; (speaking with different welding experts, that what it was suggested).
