Hello enginners,

I have a task to find two polymers. Both serve as a movement housing so I need polymers to transmit IR in the range between 8 to 14 um.

First one must diffuse visible light from LED diodes. I considered HDPE or HMWPE which is also used for movement detector housings and transmits IR. Do you think that a higher degree of crystallinity causes a better light diffusion effect? Could the degree of crystallinity influence the IR transmittance? Is there any other milky opaque polymer with similar effect?

Second one must be non-transparent a tough, ideally black colour. ABS may fit ( but I afraid that an addition od black pigment would lower the transmittance. Or generally, do dyes influence the transmittance? Do you have any experience with it?

Thank you very much for your answers.
Jiri
