I need to generate a true involute spline using AutoCad R14. The form must be correct so a tool layout can be produced. This layout will be used to dress the form on a grinding wheel to produce the cutting tool. I have tried the Machinery's Hand Book method utilizing the base circle, tangent line, and arc length, but can not correlate that to the true size of the tooth profile.

I needed to draw an involute several years ago for a tip on an .025 square pin. This was back in the paper drawing days, and we used visual grinding charts to make tools. At 500:1 you couldn't really see the difference between the involute and a constant radius.
You could try creating a parametric curve.

None-the-less there are several programs that will draw an involute gear tooth. One used in solids is GearTrax by Camnetics, Inc.

Universal Technical Systems offers a software solution that will define the tooth profile shape and size including the proper root diameter for the specific class of fit. Try UTS.com or call 800-435-7887
