Hi,

I understand that the fault level contribution of inverter based generation will be limited for the instance that it is powered by solar PV panels as the PV panels are inherently current limited devices therefore the fault level contribution will be limited.
If the inverter is on the back off batteries would this allow for a higher fault level than PV connected inverters or is it the inverter technology that is doing the limiting, and if it is the inverter technology what aspects of an inverter exactly do the limiting of the fault level?

Thanks

The short circuit contribution of a power electronic inverters is small transient, typically 150% to 200% of the full rated current for approximate 1/2 cycle. This level of fault contribution do not have significant impact on the AC feeder protection. The reason of the low fault level is that Inverters is an static power electronic device in contrast with induction or synchronous generator/motor and the fault currents decay much faster because there are no predominant inductive.
Battery as a source do not change significant the low level of short circuit contribution in the AC side.

Hope this help.
