Dear experts

I’m designing foundation of precast bearing wall , foundation system will be inverted T beam , the model of foundation is two elements shell element for flange and frame element for the stem , my question is , shall i design the stem as a beam ( top ,bottom reinf. & stirrups) or design as pedestal on the lateral loads only due to soil pressure and suppose that this stem will be transfered all of the loads to the shell by bearing .

Thank you

Thank you

Sketch? Is this a 'stub' foundation wall on a simple strip footing?

If it's a straight bearing wall, I'd probably go the pedestal route or a very nominal beam. If it's a shear wall, then a beam of some sort would probably be required. It basically comes down to how much you need to redistribute the loads delivered by the precast wall panels. I would also recommend a hand analysis rather than shell and frame elements. Given the many uncertainties involved, few foundation elements warrant that level of analysis. And fancy FEM can sometimes obfuscate that which is a) truly important and b) usually pretty darn simple.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

Thanks all

Actually the building is three story buildings and all vertical elements are precast concrete wall and these walls will be designed to resist all of the forces ( vertical & horizontal) .
