I'm asking this question as an elementary user of FEM tools.
I've been asked to calculate the tensile loads at some bolt positions based on the FEM nodal 'z' (out of plane) loads and I just want to make sure my interpretation of the FEM nodal loads is correct.
Note that the nodes and bolt positions do not match so not that easy.
The method I was going to follow was to simply use the closest nodal load to the bolt position and assume it was an Nz (as opposed to an Fz) then simply multiply by the bolt pitch to get the bolt load at that location. However I'm not sure the nodal loads that emanate from the model are in the form of an Nz (N/mm) or an Fz (N).
Any assistance that can be offered would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Wade.
