I have read in several articles that the difference between ordinary and intermediate reinforced masonry shear walls is that the vertical spacing must not exceed 48in oc. I am having trouble finding where it explicitly says this in the code. Can someone point me to the right code section? The only spacing requirement I found was 8ft oc in section 2.3.6.2.2 in the TMS 402-11. It doesn't give anything about intermediate or special.

TMS 402-13 has it in 7.3.2.6

I mentions that "spacing of vertical reinforcement shall be the smallest of... and 48 in."

I dont have a copy of the 11 handy

The section 2.3.6.2.2 you referenced is for the max spacing of the horizontal reinforcement which as you noted is 8 feet if you're doing ASD.

Look at sections 1.18.3.2.4 and 1.18.3.2.5 in TMS 402-11 for ordinary and intermediate reinforced wall requirements. Section 1.18.3.2.4 for ordinary walls reference section 1.18.3.2.3.1 for reinforcement which give a maximum spacing of 120 inches for horizontal and vertical rebar. The maximum spacing of vertical rebar in intermediate walls, per section 1.18.3.2.5, is 48 inches and for horizontal rebar is 120 inches.
