Interface fracture mechanics - Why isn't ENRRT11 = GI?

So I have this interface fracture mechanics problem I am simulating in Abaqus 2021 and it's not performing as intended (hoped).
  • Problem: Crack on curved bimaterial interface (fiber-matrix interface)
    • I am after energy release rates GI and GII of a crack along the interface.
    • Since it's a bimaterial interface GI and GII can't be calculated from KI and KII (complex SIFs for a crack on an interface between dissimilar materials)
    • VCCT works but manually doing it takes too long for the high number of analyses I need.
    • My approach is to define a VCCT interaction to extract GI and GII
  • Model of with discrete crack tip verified by analytical calculations through KI and KII.
    • Verifying with same material for fiber and matrix so analytical LEFM solution can be applied
    • This should verify the mesh, BCs etc. are as intended.
  • Model with identical mesh, materials, BCs etc. but VCCT interface -> ENRRT11 (GI) and ENRRT12 (GII) are similar to but too far from analytical results.
    • Fracture energies are deliberately set very high to ensure the crack does not propagate since I am only interested in GI and GII.
    • Just to be clear this also simulates a crack in a homogeneous material serving as verification before moving on to dissimilar materials.
I am trying to understand what's wrong here; why doesn't VCCT yield the correct ERRs?
