been seeing similar strange data of late.

makes one wonder the level of English being understood by the writers/creators.

then again, gearheads may fit in that category.
 
I went to access a site that I needed permission to log on to... part of 'signing up'. I promptly left. I've not seen anything like it.

Could be a scam, like those phone calls which want you to press '1' for further information. I think you did the safe thing.
 
That is crazy being asked that while visiting a site.

Browser extensions are another thing to pay attention to. A lot of chrome extensions ask for scary permissions. My understanding is some of the other browsers don't even warn you about permissions of any extensions you might install.
