Hi,

I have an assembly of a lift table and I want to show it in two positions one when it's at his lowest and one when it's at his highest. So then I want to do a family of assembly in order to have two position for the same model. But my problem is when I want to do this Solid Edge alert me that all my inter-part links will be broken. Is that true? because I really don't want to lose the links. Is there a workaround for this or another solution?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

yup, that's the case and there are other things to consider
when converting an asm to a FOA see SE Help topic:

Alternate Assemblies Impact on Solid Edge Functionality

At the mo I don't know of a practicable workaround

There are 2 types of family of assemblies -
1) the alternate position assembly and
2) the alternate assembly.
I don't know if the alternate postion assembly breaks the links - could be worth a try.

Thanks guys

I've done some testing with the alternate position assembly and the links made with PEER VARIABLES were good the problem was with the inter-part copies, solid edge warned me when I wanted to edit the inter-part copy that he cannot support the links because the part is used for different assembly. or something like that so... For those who wanted to know, the inter-part links are broken when you update an assembly to a family of assembly.

As a workaround I think I will promote the use of peer variables instead of inter-part copies and see what I can do with that.

Have a nice day
