Being not an intellect ;) I have a hard time comprehending what this term means. I have worked for 2 other structural firms and now I am on my 3rd gig. I am working on creating a library of typical details. Would using parts of details (not Cad copies but from memory) I saw in my pervious firms be considered violation of the intellectual property code? Where is the line drawn?

If those details are things that another engineer would probably come up with in isolation then it cannot really be intellectual property.

I always think of intellectual property as coming up with a new spreadsheet or creating an innovative patented detail.

Definately interested in hearing the comments of others as I have just signed a contract with IP clauses.

Here we go again - a bunch of engineers trying to answer legal questions.

I would suggest you talk to the company or even private lawyer..

Probably get two different answers and two different bills...
