Can anyone help me with integrating stresses over surfaces to get a resultant force in ANSYS?

I have a I-beam model built out of SOLID45 elements and I want to determine the total forces in the flange, web, etc.

ANSYS already has built-in commands for this purpose. Check out the NFORCE series of commands but be careful of the usage, particularly when outputting for a selected set of nodes - the manual explains.

Drej,

Thanks for pointing that command out to me. I have used it but I am getting very unreasonable results. For instance, I selected a line of nodes along the web of my beam and it was telling that the total shear forces going through the web was a very small number (10e-4 in magnitude), when I know the force should be around 60 kips.

Can you elaborate on how one should be careful of the usage? I don't see anything significant in the manual.

Thanks a lot.

You have to select the structural elements associated with the nodes as well! Only select elements on one side of the section though. For instance:

nsel,,,,beamsectionnodes
esln

Hi, you can also use Fsum command.

instead of integrating stress for calculating force you can gain nodal forces from general post proc and add them to have the total force
