Is it possible to insert a picture (JPEG, BMP, etc.) into a drawing view?

We are trying to document an assembly by taking a digital photo of our product and then using this photo to identify components which we don't want to model (wire harnesses, tubing) on the drawing.

We can insert an object, but the picture doesn't display on the drawing, just a link to the picture. We would like to be able to see the picture without having to go into a secondary program and we would like to be able to print the drawing (with picture) directly from Solidworks.

Thanks,

Insert, object and browse for file works for me. No link, just the pic

Try simple Ctrl-C & Ctrl-V to copy and paste image from Paint or any other image editing program.
This can also be done on Sheet format level (background)...

I believe the issue here is machine specific. Other machines have no issues inserting BMPs - JPEGs always come in as a link.

Just as a point of curiosity, what version of SWX are people who do this using and what format are the inserted images?

Copy/Paste has worked in all versions of SW for me. I usually use jpg files. There may be an options setting that controls this?

Insert\Object\ - From file.

It will only work as long as you have an Application associated to the "Image" file or what ever you insert otherwise it will come in as an Icon.

I have been having the same problem. When I do the copy/paste from paint, the Image appears for a second then disappears.

Scott what do you meen by "have an Application associated to the "Image" file"

Windows tries automatically associate file types such as .jpg with an appropriate application. If it can't find one you get that default looking icon in your Windows explorer. If you place a file into SW that has no program associated with it, then it shows up as an icon.

Sometimes Windows chooses the App, but SW doesn't recognize it. You have to manually go to the file options of Windows Explorer, and change or re-point the file type to the appropriate application.
