I get very mixed results when I insert (embed) an Excel file in a drawing using the Insert... Object command. Excel files with a small number of columns (three or four) seem to work fine, while larger ones are often cut short (all columns do not display). Sometimes by messing with the Excel file (clearing columns, changing Print Area) I can get columns back; other times I cannot.
I believe that this may at least partially be a Microsoft problem; something to do with column limitations. However, I cannot find any documentation that clearly describes any limitations. I'm also unsure if it's partially a SolidWorks problem as well.
Can anybody shed light on this? Has anybody done the research to find the best / correct / only way to insert Excel files (particularly with lots of columns)?
Here's a cool idea--allow 2006's new General Tables to be linked to an Excel file. Then there would be no need to embed an Excel file. I'll submit an ER for that.
