Increasing Existing Weld Size

I would like to increase the weld size on an existing double-angle brace connection from 3/16" to 5/16".

Is this permitted by AISC? Is there an established procedure to do this? Since this is in a tough spot to access, the less grinding the better.

Obviously proper fusion is a concern, but it seems like this would be similar to a multi-pass weld.

The angle legs and gusset plates are 3/8". The remainder of the connection checks out - the brace-to-gusset connection is by far the weak link.

That should be no problem. Except...., you should know what the base materials are, or have a good idea/guess, so you pick compatible welding materials. You do already know that the materials are weldable. Also, the members should not be loaded or highly stressed when you do the welding.
