Increase in KW'S resulting in motor failures

I am looking to see if anyone has seen any studies done on failure trends of motors as the KW's have increased due to drive train faults?

If the motor protection works properly, there is no failure trend. If the motor protection does not work properly there is 100% correlation.

I am trying to trend some data as to how much of an increase in KW's draw results in the motor failures. I guess I am looking to see if anyone has carried out a study of this type. I will assume the motor protection is working so the trending would need to have been done using some other devices.

You may want to contact some motor manufacturers if they had done any testing or contact organizations such as NEMA.

Not many people stress their motors to the point of failure on purpose, never mind trending it.

Motors are only good for what they are rated. If loaded more than their rating and the motor protection is working there will not be a motor failure in normal use.

On the other hand, you can fail a motor without overload in a few minutes by abuse such as starting and stopping it in quick successions without allowing it to cool down between the starts. Normal protection may or may not pick that up.

What type of drive train faults do you have in mind? Trying to determine equipment health by monitoring motor current or kW is often not successful. Drive train faults and failures are better detected by monitoring bearing temperatures and vibration of the drive train or the driven load.
A hint as to your application would be helpful.
