Hello,
I have solid edge V18. I am trying to import an solidworks assembly into S/E. When I try to open it, it says the parasolid body could not be extracted. I guess this because I am using an older version of solid edge which is not compatible with latest Solid Works format.
Is there a way around this. It would save a lot of time building sub assemblies. Many Thanks

Ask your SW folks if they have the capability to save it in earlier versions of Parasolid - not sure is SW can or not.

Or, try using step, iges...

Try starting a fresh session of solid edge and import the file before doing anything else. That will often solve import problems. There should be something about the version of parasolid in the log window (or file).

SW can Save As every version of parasolid from 8.0 to 21.0

I'm surprised that SE cannot import SW format files, because SW can import SE format files.

Not sure about V18, but recent versions can import SolidWorks files.
For the parasolid translation just open a SE model and Save As then Options to see the versions that SE18 can use.

Where would we be without sat-nav?

SE has been able to open SW files for some time, so long as they are an older version than SE itself, if you catch my drift.

To elaborate on Kenat's post -
SEv18 was around in about 2007, so if the Solid Works file is a version later than that you will not be able to import it directly.
