Hi,
I am using Autodesk Inventor 2011 to create parts for use in Abaqus 6.8. I split my model into 2 parts in Inventor and then merge them into 1 part in Abaqus as in its one part configuration the model cannot be meshed by Abaqus, but by merging them this gave me a boundary between the 2 which allowed meshing and was also necessary for the assignment of material properties.

The parts are to be merged on a highly curved surface and unfortunately there appears to be some detail lost when imported into Abaqus as it is not possible to use the required meshing technique. I am importing the parts as SAT files. Are there any settings in Abaqus that would prevent this loss in detail or should i use another file type for import?

Increase your part display settings. Does it get better? Alternatively does the mesh lie on the desired surface? Abaqus is not as good at displaying surfaces as a CAD package is. I hope this helps.
