Import from Pro/E 1

Does anyone know the best way to Export a model from Pro/E so that it can be opened up in SolidWorks? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Straight from SolidWorks help files:

Pro/ENGINEER Files

The Add-In module SldTrans 1.0 imports a part or assembly file from Pro/ENGINEERÒ into a SolidWorks part or assembly document. The attributes, features, sketches, and dimensions of the Pro/ENGINEER part are imported. If all of the features in the file are not supported, you can choose to import the file as either a solid body or a surface model.
When importing an assembly, you can control how to import individual components. Sub-assemblies are supported as well.

Some known limitations are as follows:

· Only versions 17 through 20 of Pro/ENGINEER are supported.

· Assembly features are not supported.

To activate the Pro/ENGINEER translator:

1 Click Tools, Add-Ins.
2 Select SldTrans 1.0 from the list of installed, compatible software products.

To open a Pro/ENGINEER file:

1 Click File, Open.
2 In the Open dialog box, set Files of type to one of the following:

· Pro/ENGINEER Part File (*.prt.*)

· Pro/ENGINEER Part File (*.prt)

· Pro/ENGINEER Assembly File (*.asm.*)

· Pro/ENGINEER Assembly File (*.asm)

· Pro/ENGINEER Part File (*.xpr)

· Pro/ENGINEER Assembly File (*.xas)

3 Browse to the desired file, and click Open.

If the file comes from Pro/E 2000i or 2000i2 then you can download a free program called PSEhange. This file file take off the before mentioned limitation of up to r20. you cam find the program in the downloads section of my site listed below.

What dsi really wants to know is what format the ProE user should send the file for best import into SWX. The binary ProE file is an aggravating issue since it locks the rest of the worl out of the ProE loop. It is the CAD equivalent of copy protection. Can ProE users save as release 20 files? That would work because we could then use the SWX importer.
I have poor results with IGES files from ProE. We have done better with STEP files. My best results for SWX have been with parasolids text format files.
That has been our experience.
