I'm designing a fall arrest system which utilizes wood fasteners. Can a load duration factor equal to 2.0 be used? Would this be considered an impact load? Thanks

I'd consider two cases: Impact for the fall, and then a separate load case for the man hanging there that doesn't have the 2.0 factor.

You say "wood fasteners". Are you attaching to something with fasteners typically used for wood? OR, are the fasteners made of wood? How you ask the question can result in answers totally unrelated to your real question.

The 2.0 factor for impact loading applies to wood members, but not necessarily to the fasteners.

I suppose it would depend on which code you are using. If you use the Canadian Code, CSA 086-01, the maximum Load Duration Factor you can get for short duration is 1.15.

Of more interest is, how are you calculating impact force?
