Does anyone knows the iec standard number that defines frame designation, cooling method for polyphase motor? Thanks.

Hi place1234,

Please refer the followings.

1) IEC 60034-6 for Method of Cooling (So called IC Code).

2) IEC 60072-1 and 2 for Frame sizes from 56-1000.

Hope this will be helpful!

Good luck!

Kiribanda

Thanks!
Does that mean IEC not like NEMA (INCLUDING FRAME designation/enclosure, etc in one stardard)? IEC seperate all the standards?

place1234, yes that's right. Most of the motor standards are under the IEC 60034 series, but they are all separate documents, purchased and revised separately. Not as convenient as NEMA MG1 I agree, but that's just the way it has evolved.

UKpete that information is interesting. Do you know if it is a source to consult those standards without having to buy so many documents?

aolalde, no I don't. What has happened in companies I have worked for here in the UK is that they are paid-up members of either the British Standards Institute or some other company or institution (such as a University library), in which case they are provided by mail or download.

I never found it very convenient, you ended up with a mixed bag of different parts of the standards relevant only to the job you were on. As you can imagine there is also a lot of cross-referencing, so you sometimes bought a standard only to find it quoting another one which you then have to obtain.
