I am designing a cable tensioning mechanism that uses a stack of Belleville spring washers to maintain load over time. My question is regarding the appropriate diametrical clearances for the spring stack to provide sufficient room for ID reduction under load. Where can I find information on this topic, or, a widely accepted "rule of thumb" to determine the diameter of the guide rod used?
