I need to calculate ice load on structure at Hudson River in NY. I need to find typical characteristics of ice at Hudson River in terms of thickness, typical floating ice sheet dimensions, compressive strength, etc. I appreciate if anybody has some feedback or direct me to where I can find this information. Thanks for your help..

We designed an esplanade in the East River a few years ago. We used the ice engineering manual by the US Army COE Manual No. EM 1110-2-1612. You should be able to download the pdf.

I am looking for the typical ice thickness and floating ice dimension. Are these listed in the manual for areas at Hudson River NY?

The COE manual is very thorough but it does not address specific conditions in the Hudson River. However, you can try contacting the NY District to see if they have any ice survey info. Give them a specific location because at the southern end of the river we rarely see ice.

Also, NYSDOT "Blue Pages" provides some guidance on ice forces.
