ICC Approved Anchors

Folks,
How many of your are specifying only ICC approved anchors in your specifications or general notes?

I think the IBC -> ACI App D -> ACI 355.2 -> ASTM -> ICC-ES round-tripping only leaves a few code approved anchors although there are a many handful more listed in vendor's manuals.

Are you only using the code approved ones in your design or do your respective jurisdictions have a leeway in these because they are PRODUCTS.

If it does not have an ICC report, it does not get approved.

We're accepting three epoxy anchors and and three wedge (expansion) anchors. Only Hilti, Simpson and Powers have done the testing to my knowledge. I'm sure the others will catch up as they acknowledge their disadvantage competitively.

No leeway at all with our building officials. This is hot on their important things to look at list.

So only anchors with current ICC reports listing compliance with 2006 IBC for us. Currently specifying Hilti and Simpson adhesives and mech anchors.

We only specify Simpson. We work mostly with the Florida Building Code, which is almost identical to the IBC.

I am in FL (HVHZ) as well. Just wondering if there is any resistance to specifying only a handful of anchor choices. I am by no means trying to violate code requirements, but curious as to what the general practice is.

slickdeals...we try to stay with products that have Florida Product Approval. Interestingly enough, Hilti does not. There are others besides Simpson; however, I have personal knowledge of Simpson's testing and their follow-up in the event of an issue, so I'm comfortable with their products.

There are two schools of thought on specifications...specify a range and let someone pick the one they want, or specify a limited group that you will accept based on experience with the product. I like to stick with the latter, since I came from a testing background and have done hundreds of tests on anchors of various types.

Ron,
Since you seem knowledgeable regarding the Florida product approvals, I want to ask you if you had problems regarding Dade/Broward counties accepting the Florida Statewide approvals. My colleagues have run into problems where the City of Miami would not accept a Simpson anchor because it does not state FBC HVHZ in the ICC-ES reports.

On a side note, I did find the following Hilti anchors approved for use in HVHZ
