I wonder when we add a relief tube/

I wonder when we add a vent tube/pipe for a indoor gas regulator that feeds a water heater. i seen both ways with and without. Is the new regulators don't need one? my pressure is 2psi to 7".

Most 2 stage regulators are self relieving. I would definitely recommend one for a single stage regulator.
