What's the function of i/o card and the controller in a control panel ?

Are you serious?

I/O stands for input / Output and cards translate the incoming signals into numbers for the control system to read and translate outgoing numbers from the control panel into electrical signals to activate or control equipment.

You get digital I/O which is on or off and
Analogue I/O which is a variable signal.

So e.g.

A valve open / close signal is a digital signal, but a pressure is a variable so is an analogue input.

The controller controls things.

Thank you for your response, but i wanted more details, fore example; the signal comes from the transmitter is 4-20 mA already which means it's already an electrical signal can be readable by the controller, so what exactly the I/O card do ?

thank you again

Turns the 4-20ma into a number between from memory 900 to 64000 which is then transmitted via an interface cable as an 8 bit digital number

This number is then converted in the controller into engineering units.

So a number say 24000 could be programmed to be 2 bar, 20 bar or 200 bar.
